How to fill your binder
The binder is a fillable PDF. Type into it and save it, or print it and write by hand.
On a computer (best)
- Download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from adobe.com if you don't have it.
- Save the binder PDF somewhere you'll find it, then open it in Acrobat Reader (right-click, Open with, Adobe Acrobat Reader).
- Click a light box and type. Press Tab to move to the next field. Click a checkbox to tick it.
- Choose File, Save often. Keep a backup copy somewhere safe, like an encrypted USB drive or a private cloud folder.
Mac Preview and web browsers can open the fields too, but they don't always save them reliably. Acrobat Reader is the safest choice.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Tap the download link, then tap Share, Save to Files.
- Open the file in the Files app and tap a field to type, or open it in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app for the most reliable saving.
- GoodNotes and Notability work well if you prefer handwriting with a stylus.
On an Android phone or tablet
- Download the file. It goes to your Downloads folder.
- Open it in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app, tap a field and type, then save.
Printing
- Print at home or at any print shop. Choose Actual size (or 100%) and the right paper: US Letter or A4.
- Print only the pages you need, and print extra copies of pages like the Update Log or Notes.
- A 1.5-inch three-ring binder with tab dividers fits the full binder nicely.
Keep it safe
- Never write passwords, PINs, full Social Security numbers or full account numbers. Write where things are kept instead.
- Store the printed binder in a fireproof box or another safe, findable place, and tell one or two trusted people where it is.
- Review it once a year and after big life changes, and note the changes in the Update Log.
